On Design: This typeface is appropriate for any sort of design project. The Akzidenz Grotesk typeface comes in a wide range of weights, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. Berthold added AG Medium Italic (1963), AG ExtraBold (1966), AG Italic (1967), AG ExtraBold Condensed & Italic (1968), AG SuperBold Condensed & Italic (1969), and AG SuperBold Condensed & Italic (1969) under the guidance of Günter Gerhard Lange (1968). Günter Gerhard Lange, then the art director of Berthold, undertook a project in the 1950s to expand the font family, adding a bigger character set but keeping all of the 1898 faces quirks. Theinhardt amalgamated with Berthold later and offered the standard, medium, and bold weights as well. Originally known as “Accidenz-Grotesk,” the design is based on royal type cutter Ferdinand Theinhardt’s Royal Grotesk illumination. In 1898, Berthold published Akzidenz-Grotesk for the first time. By more than 40 years, this early sans serif predated the initial weight of Helvetica. This font was the first sans-serif typeface to be widely used, and it influenced the design of Helvetica. Akzidenz Grotesk Font is comparable to Basic Commercial font, Aileron font, and Protestant font.
